How to Use the Rolled-Hem Attachment to a Singer Sewing Machine
A rolled hem is a narrow hem typically seen on scarves and handkerchiefs. It's perfect for use on light- to medium-weight fabrics where a traditional hem might be out of place, such as on formal dresses or table linens. While it is possible to create this delicate hem by hand, most seamstresses turn to a rolled hem foot for its ease and speed. Using a rolled hem attachment on your Singer allows you to make quick work of a process that might take hours to complete by hand.
Instructions

1
Fasten the rolled hem attachment to your sewing machine. Depending on your model, you may have to loosen a screw or simply snap on the foot.
-
2
Select the straight stitch on your machine and adjust the stitch length to medium.
-
-
3
Press the raw edge of the fabric over 1/8 inch, then fold and press again.
-
4
Place the edge of the folded hem against the channel of the presser foot and begin stitching for approximately ½ inch. Stop sewing and leave the needle in the fabric. Raise the presser foot and arrange the folded fabric into the scroll on the foot.
-
5
Lower your foot and continue sewing until you're finished with the hem.

Tips & Warnings
Sew slowly and guide the fabric through the rolled hem attachment with your right hand.
Rolled hem attachments are best suited for straight sewing, so avoid sharp curves to reduce mistakes that can ruin your project.
