How to Store Stuff in the Garage

Store small garage items in old coffee cans.

The garage provides storage for all sorts of items, including tools, lawn mowers, bicycles, gardening equipment and seasonal decorations. Many times, the garage is a cluttered mess with stuff strewn everywhere. Proper storing in the garage allows you to locate items easily and move around in the space with ease. Use storage containers and even old coffee cans to keep items stored efficiently and safely.

Things You'll Need

• Old coffee cans with lids
• Nails
• Hammer
• Pegboards
• Wire hooks
• Plastic containers
• Tool cabinet

Instructions

1. Gather similar screws, nuts and bolts together. Place each type of item in separate old coffee cans with lids. Label and place them in an orderly arrangement on a shelf.

2. Nail sections of pegboard to studs on the garage walls. Place wire hooks in various holes in the board.

3. Hang shovels, rakes, string trimmers and other not-too-heavy tools on the hooks. Anything that has a hole or a hook can hang on the pegboard, which keeps smaller items from littering the garage floor. Larger hooks are available for hanging bicycles, ladders and wheelbarrows.

4. Place old rags, Christmas decorations or other items cluttering shelves in the garage in plastic containers. The containers stack easily and keep items from becoming wet, dirty or damaged.

5. Place tools, especially power tools, in a cabinet to protect them.
