The key to its age is in its model number.

The one thing that your Evinrude outboard motor's information plate doesn't specify is the year it was built. That information is encoded in the model number. Once you located the model number of your Evinrude outboard motor on its registration, Manufacturer's Statement of Origin or the information plate on the motor mount, decoding the model number to discover the year in which your outboard motor was built takes little more than a pencil and paper.
