How to Clean Mildrew From a Shower Curtain
Shower curtains are exposed to moisture and soap residue on a regular basis. The dark, damp conditions of most bathrooms provide the ideal environment for mildew growth. Mildew can cause musty odors and ruin the appearance of your shower curtain. Fortunately, even vinyl shower curtains are machine washable with a little extra care and effort. Use bleach or vinegar to kill mildew, remove stains and deodorize the shower curtain. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Bleach
- Laundry detergent
- 2 or 3 light-colored or old towels
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
Instructions

Bleach Method

Remove the shower curtain from the curtain rod.

Fill the washer with warm water and add 1/2 cup bleach and 1/4 cup laundry detergent.

Add the shower curtain and two or three light-colored or old bath towels to the washing machine.

Remove the shower curtain and towels from the washing machine when the cycle is complete. Place the shower curtain and towels in the washing machine on the lowest heat setting for 10 minutes.

Hang the shower curtain to remove wrinkles and finish drying.
Vinegar Method

Wash the shower curtain with 1/2 cup laundry detergent and 1/2 cup baking soda in warm water.

Add one cup of white vinegar to the first rinse cycle. Remove the shower curtain from the washer before the spin cycle begins.

Hang the shower curtain to dry.
