How to Make Chimes From Pipe thumbnail
You can make wind chimes out of everyday materials.

Hanging up wind chimes can allow you to hear tones when the wind blows. Not only are wind chimes pleasant to hear, but they can also alert you to changing weather conditions. Although you can buy wind chimes from a garden supply store or novelty shop, you can also make your own wind chimes from objects that you may have lying around your house, like PVC pipe. Once you have constructed the wind chimes, you can customize it using acrylic paint.

  • 1-inch wide PVC pipe
  • Saw

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the PVC pipe into six 8-inch sections using a hand saw.

    • 2

Sand the cut edges to make them smooth.

    • 3

Drill two holes onto each pipe, placing the holes on one end and arranging the holes opposite from each other.

    • 4

Paint the pipes using acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.

    • 5

Cut six pieces of nylon string to measure 6 inches long.

    • 6

Thread one end of each string though both holes on each pipe, and tie the end onto itself with a knot.

    • 7

Tie the other ends of each string onto the wooden craft ring, spacing the strings about 1-inch apart.

    • 8

Cut three more nylon strings to measure 6 inches long each.

    • 9

Tie one end of each string onto the wooden ring, spacing the strings about 2 inches apart.

    • 10

Tie the other end of each string together. You can now hang up the pipe wind chimes by the tied together nylon strings.
