Instructions

    • 1

Select or purchase your molds. Candy molds from a craft store or cake decorating store will work fine. You can also find old candy molds at antique stores and online.

    • 2

Mix with your hands 2 cups of granulated white sugar and 4 tsp. of water (tinted with food coloring if you'd like) and 1/4 tsp of meringue powder until the mixture feels like wet sand.

    • 3

Dust your mold lightly with cornstarch to prevent the sugar from sticking.

    • 4

Press the sugar mixture into the mold firmly. Make sure the sugar fills the mold completely. Brush or scrape off any excess.

    • 5

Unmold the sugar by placing a piece of cardboard or a plate over the mold. Turn the mold and cardboard upside down and lift the mold off the sugar.

    • 6

Dry the sugar shapes for at least 5 hours or place in a 200 degree oven for 5-10 minutes.

    • 7

Decorate larger sugar molds with royal icing if you desire.
