How to Change the Skin on Your GPS
A GPS provides directions and maps, as well as helping you know where you are if you ever get lost. This makes them a popular device in vehicles. While the purpose may be highly utilitarian and practical, that doesn't mean that the skin, or display theme, needs to be boring or impersonal. There are lots of different skins you can choose from that will liven up your GPS, and they can be easily installed on your device in no time.

1
Connect your GPS to your computer with the connection cable, and upgrade the firmware. Most skins will require the newest version of firmware in order to function properly.
-
2
Download the skin you want to change your existing one to. Make sure the skin is designed for your make and model of GPS, or specifically states it is universal, or the skin will not work with all of your GPS functions.
-
-
3
Extract the skin file onto your computer and locate the file called Read Me. This is the text file that contains all of the destination information for your GPS.
-
4
Read the Read Me file, and familiarize yourself with the information about installing the skin. The Read Me file will mention which of the extracted files, and where on the GPS to place them.
-
5
Move the files to the GPS destination and let them transfer. Turn the GPS off so the power is off instead of hibernating, and then restart it to load the new skin and see its effect.

Tips & Warnings
You can design your own customized skin for your GPS using a skin building program, if you have design and coding experience.
Do not make changes to the integral system files on your GPS hard drive unless you are sure you know what you are doing, as it can result in performance problems and potentially void the warranty.
