How to Make an Edible Cake Art Image

Edible cake art images transform a cake from plain to interesting in mere minutes. Making an edible cake art image from scratch is more difficult than ordering a premade one online, but you can create one with the correct technology. Purchase edible frosting paper and ink, which you can place in certain printers to make creative and personalized decorations at home. This technique is suitable for people who like to bake cakes regularly and will utilize these tools to create professional-looking cakes.

Instructions

1. Design the image that you will use on your cake. Printer companies such as Canon sell kits that include cake-designing software. Otherwise create the image using programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator or Corel Draw. You also can create the image using Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, if that is the software that is most convenient for you to use.

2. Create a background for your image by drawing a shape using your software of choice. You can fill it in with color if you desire or leave it white. If you are using a picture or graphic as a guide, copy and paste it onto your workspace. Drag the image onto your background shape and arrange the design to your preference. Add any text using the text box feature located on software programs. Change the color of the text if you want a different color.

3. Insert the edible ink into your printer. Ensure that you are using a printer that is compatible with edible ink. Canon and Epson both have printers that work with edible ink. The printer should not be used for other purposes than creating edible ink images, otherwise real ink could get into the food. You can find edible ink online at PrintCountry or Sugarcraft. Insert the edible icing paper into your printer with the frosting side to the front. Print out the image.

4. Dry your hands. Apply the image to the cake. Smooth out any wrinkles as they occur. Add a border or text to the cake if you desire.

Tips & Warnings

• Use separate printers for printing edible items and nonedible items, as you do not want the inks to mix.
