1
Clean the potato thoroughly using a vegetable brush and warm water.
-
2
Cut aluminum foil into a 1-foot by 1-foot or 18-inch by 18-inch square with the foil cutter built into the foil box. Put the aluminum foil piece flat on a counter or tabletop with one of the corners closest to you.
-
-
3
Place the potato horizontally about 4 inches away from the end of the corner closest to you.
-
4
Cut two 1/4 inch thick pats of butter. Place one underneath the potato and one on top of it.
-
5
Sprinkle spices on the potato. Simply sprinkling salt provides a tasty result, but other spices such as seasoned salt, garlic, parsley and paprika add other elements of flavor. Experiment to see which ones you like best.
-
6
Fold the bottom corner of the foil up over the potato and the right and left corners toward the middle of the sheet. Roll the potato and foil away from you all the way to the far corner.
-
7
Gently press the foil around the potato, making sure it is completely covered. Use another piece of foil to cover a large potato if necessary.
-
8
Place the potato on a pre-heated medium-hot grill. Use tongs to carefully turn the potato every 15 minutes. The potato will be done in about an hour.
-
9
Carefully unwrap the foil, and top the potato with your favorite fixings.

Tips & Warnings
Choose a potato that is ripe and has few blemishes or dark spots. Idaho potatoes, baking potatoes, white, yellow or red potatoes all will produce delicious results.
Skip butter and don't use salt if you are a health-conscious chef. The potato still will be savory and enjoyable.
