Things You'll Need

  • Small ponytail elastic band

  • 11 1/2-inch fashion doll

  • Baby or medium weight yarn

  • F crochet hook

Toilet paper covers keep the replacement roll clean and close at hand.

An attractive toilet tissue cover will disguise the extra roll of paper in your bathroom while adding a decorative touch to the room. Crochet a dress for a fashion doll with an over-sized skirt that will envelop the tissue roll. The clothed doll body is inserted into a tissue roll to complete the look, which is reminiscent of 1960s bathroom decor. The toilet tissue cover made with a doll is a conversation piece that will make a gift with vintage appeal.

Step 1

Make 30 crochet stitches around the ponytail elastic band with yarn and an F crochet hook. Make a slip stitch in the first stitch to join. This crochet work will cover the elastic which will hold the crocheted bodice in place over the doll's chest. Make sure that the band is hidden within the crochet stitches.

Step 2

Make a chain one and then single crochet in each stitch around the ring for a total of 30 stitches. Slip stitch to join the ends for row. Repeat this row of 30 single crochets finished with a slip stitch to join for row 3 through 10.

Step 3

Try this bodice piece, which should measure 2 and 1/2 to 2 and 3/4 inches long, onto the doll to make sure that it fits from the bust area to the waist. It will be loose at the waist. The elastic band should fit snugly around the top of the bust.

Step 4

Make a chain one stitch which will count as the first single crochet and make a second single crochet in the same stitch. Make a single crochet in the next stitch. Continue by making 2 single crochets in one stitch and 1 single crochet in the next stitch around for row 11. Slip stitch to join.

Step 5

Check to see if the last row that you crocheted is wide enough to cover the single or double toilet tissue roll. Measure across the width of the crochet skirt top with a measuring tape to compare it with the width of the toilet paper roll. If it is not big enough, take out the row and make 2 double crochet stitches in each stitch of row 11 instead.

Step 6

Make a chain one stitch which counts for the first single crochet. Make a second single crochet in the same stitch. Continue by making 2 single crochet stitches in each stitch for row 12.

Step 7

Make a chain one stitch and single crochet stitch in the first stitch of row 13. Make 2 single crochets in each stitch around the skirt and slip stitch to join for row 13 through row 25. Test the doll and dress over the toilet tissue roll. Continue crocheting rows until the dress is at a length that completely covers the single or double roll. The measurement from the bottom of the waist to the bottom of the toilet paper roll and doll's feet will be approximately 6 and 1/2 inches.

Step 8

Make a 2-stitch chain. Double crochet in the same stitch. Chain 1 stitch and make 2 double crochets in the same stitch to create a shell stitch. Skip one stitch and make 2 double crochets, chain 1, 2 double crochet shell stitches in every other stitch around the entire skirt bottom. Slip stitch in the last stitch. Cut the yarn and leave a 4-inch long tail. Weave the yarn into the skirt to hide it.

Step 9

Attach yarn to the top of the back side of the dress and knot it securely. Make a chain of 6 stitches for a strap. Slip stitch into the shoulder region at the top of the front of the dress. Make slip stitches across the front of the dress to the opposite shoulder. Make a chain of 6 stitches for the second strap. Secure the strap to the back top of the dress by slip stitching into the top row.

Tip

The double roll of toilet paper is approximately 4 and 1/2 inches wide. Decorate the toilet tissue doll cover dress with a few small crocheted or silk flowers to match the bathroom decor.
