How to Play Guitar on a PC With a PS3 Rock Band Guitar

Guitar games such as "Rock Band" are music and rhythm video games usually played on consoles such as the Playstation 3 (PS3). You can also use a USB PS3 guitar with your PC to play similar free guitar games such as "Jam Legend," "Shred Master" or "Frets on Fire." These games allow you to play a large library of songs with your PS3 guitar. You must download the free Xpadder program first and set up your PS3 guitar controller to play on your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install the Xpadder program from the Xpadder website (see Resources).

    • 2

Extract the files from the download and double click the Xpadder .exe file to launch the program. You must launch Xpadder each time you want to play a game using your PS3 guitar controller.

    • 3

Plug your PS3 USB guitar into a USB port on your computer and allow your computer to detect the new hardware.

    • 4

Click the "New" button in the top left corner of the Xpadder screen, then select the "DPad" tab.

    • 5

Place a mark in the "Enabled" box, then click the "Detect" button.

    • 6

Follow the program's prompts to map your guitar controller buttons. Xpadder requires you to press the corresponding buttons for up, left and right strum on your PS3 guitar.

    • 7

      Navigate to the "Buttons" tab.

    • 8

Press each fret key on your PS3 guitar once to allow Xpadder to map the controls in the program. Your PS3 guitar is now ready to play online games that are compatible with a guitar controller.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may also need to configure the PS3 guitar within the guitar game's options, depending on the game's requirements.
