Instructions

    • 1

Set the large, circular bucket or plastic tub on its bottom on a flat surface. An ideal container to use is a large ice cream tub or other round plastic container.

    • 2

Set a small, circular bucket or plastic tub inside the large container. The small container should be set on its bottom in the center of the large container and should be roughly the same height as the larger container.

    • 3

Place three or four rocks in the small tub to ensure it stays in the center of the large tub.

    • 4

Fill the gap between the tubs with water. Fill the water to about an inch from the top of the middle tub.

    • 5

Place seasonal decorations in the water around the small tub. These decorations can include pine needles, cranberries, pine cones and anything else you see fit.

    • 6

Place the container device upright in a freezer and leave it for several hours until the water has frozen solid.

    • 7

Remove the container device from the freezer and hold it sideways under warm tap water. Turn the container slowly until the ice breaks free from the plastic and you are able to pull the ice mold free.

    • 8

Set the ice mold outdoors on a porch, deck or railing and add a lit candle to its center. Any size of candle will work, provided it fits in the hole. Even a small votive-style candle will create a glow that shines through the ice.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make different-colored candle molds by adding food coloring to the water before it freezes.

  • If the temperature rises to the point where the ice mold is melting, return it to the large bucket and place it in the freezer until the temperature falls again.
