How to Measure a 1.25 Cubic Feet Speaker Box
The quality of a sub-woofer's sound is largely based on the enclosure it is housed in. Manufacturers conduct extensive product testing to determine the optimum volume for a particular sub-woofer's enclosure. You can use this recommended figure when building your sub-woofer box to determine the dimensions of the box you are going to build. The easiest way to do this is learn the math required to determine the cube-root of a predetermined volume. In this case, 1.25 cubic feet will give us dimensions of a square with a volume of 1.25 cubic feet.

Find the closest whole number that when cubed, is less than our target volume of 1.25 cubic feet. In our case, this is 1.

Increase the chosen number by 0.1 and cube it. 1.1^3 = 1.331. This is larger than our target volume, so our dimensions will be less than 1.1.

Decrease the number slightly, to say 1.05. Cube this number, which gets us 1.16. This is less than our target, so we will need to increase it.

Increase the number by 0.01 and cube it until the result is as close to 1.25 as we can get without going over. For us, this ends up being 1.07. 1.07^3 = 1.225.

Use 1.225 feet as the dimension for your sub-woofer box. So for a square box, the sides would measure 1.225-feet square.

Tips & Warnings
Engineering and Scientific calculators may have a cube-root function built in.
You can go as far as you want. down to hundredths or thousandths, but many numbers won't have an exact cube root, so going so far is futile.
