Making the Candy Apples
-
1
Wash and dry the apples. Remove the stems and push the wooden dowels into the apples.
-
2
Place the sugar, water and corn syrup into a saucepan and place it over the heat. Stir the mixture until the sugar has dissolved and continue stirring so that it doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan.

3
Place your candy thermometer into the saucepan, being sure that the end does not touch the side or bottom of the pan. Remove the sugar mixture from the heat when the thermometer reads 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Stir in the orange food coloring.
-
4
Dip an apple into the sugar mixture and swirl it around, ensuring that it is evenly coated. Pull the apple out of the sugar mixture and hold it above the pan for a few seconds allowing any excess to drip off. Place the apple on a piece of parchment paper.
Decorating the Apples
-
5
Decorate the apples simply by rolling them in orange and black sprinkles before the candy coating hardens.
-
6
Wait until the candy coating hardens on the apples and decorate them to look like jack-o-lanterns.
-
7
Fit a thin tip inside a pastry bag and fill the bag with black frosting.
-
8
Pipe a jack-o-lantern face onto each apple. Make each face unique by drawing some that are scary, some that are smiling and others that look goofy.
