How to Reduce Itching Around the Eyes
Many people with sensitive skin suffer from itching around the eyes. It may be caused by dryness, and can usually be treated with a moisturizer designed for sensitive skin. Itching may also be the caused by makeup products such as eyeliner, eyeshadow and mascara. Some foundations and powders can also cause irritation and itching. In some cases, allergic reactions to soaps, creams or some beauty products may cause the skin around the eyes to itch and become dehydrated. Although not a serious ailment, itching can leave unwanted marks or skin discoloration. If left untreated, itching around the eyes may lead to atopic pleat, which is the formation of a fold of skin under the eyes. Determine whether any product you regularly use may be causing the irritation. If you think a particular product is causing itchiness and irritation around the eyes, or if itchy skin developed soon after you started to use a product, discontinue immediately. Wait a few days to see if the itching has lessened before trying anything else.

Apply a hydrocortisone topical cream to the skin. Hydrocortisone is effective against a variety of minor skin ailments, including irritation, itchiness and swelling, and may be obtained without a prescription in most pharmacies. Apply the cream twice a day for best results. If the itching persists for more than five days, consult a dermatologist for a stronger topical cream.

Apply a facial moisturizer that is especially formulated for sensitive skin to the skin around the eyes. Do not use excessive amounts.

Wash your face with a face wash that contains moisturizing ingredients, rather than with regular soap, which can cause dryness. Wash with a small amount of the product, with warm or cold water, at least twice a day. After washing, gently pat the eye area dry to reduce itchy, dry and puffy skin.

Eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, and prepare a regimen of dietary supplements. This will provide your system with nutrients that help you metabolize vitamins and balance hormones. Minerals such as selenium and zinc are especially beneficial for eyes and skin, and are found in foods such as wheat, oysters and red meat. Antioxidants also help protect your skin from damage. Include foods in your diet that are rich in antioxidants; they can be found in seafood as well as many other foods.

Tips & Warnings
Bathing in hot water for a long time may lead to itchy, dry skin around the eyes. Do not bathe or shower with hot water for extended periods.
