DIY Disc Golf Basket
Disc golf is a sport typically played on a course located in or near public parks. The game is played much like golf, using a flying disc thrown from a tee box onto a fairway, and eventually landing in a standing basket. The least amount of throws to each basket along the course wins the game. Like all sports, disc golf requires practice. A great way to aid in practice is to make your own disc golf basket.
Things You'll Need
- Plywood
- Router or saw
- Three-inch diameter PVC pole
- Two eight-inch diameter, three-inch center flange brackets
- Wood or metal screws
- Drill
- Pliers
- Galvanized steel chain (26 feet)
- 26-inch diameter wicker basket
- Duct tape
- Hose clamp
- 12 two-inch eyebolts with fitting nuts and washers
- Post hole digger or auger
Instructions

1
Measure out and cut the PVC pole to a length of seven feet. You can use a metal pole, but this is more difficult to cut.
-
2
Cut a piece of plywood into a 26-inch circle using a saw or router. Drill 12 holes spaced evenly along the edge of the plywood circle.
-
-
3
Insert eyebolts into each hole. Attach nuts and washers to the eyebolt above and below the plywood. Tighten all the bolts evenly.
-
4
Slide the flange bracket onto the top of the pole and screw it into the pole along the sides. Ensure that the wide edge of the flange bracket is two inches from the top. This forms the base where the plywood will sit.
-
5
Set the plywood onto the flange bracket. Screw four screws, evenly spaced along the circumference, through the plywood into the flange bracket to secure the plywood top.
-
6
Cut your chain into 12 pieces, each piece measuring 26 inches long. Bend out the eyebolts slightly, enough to accept the chain, using pliers. Slip a chain onto each eyebolt.
-
7
Thread a metal wire in through the bottom link of each chain. Wrap the wire around the pole and twist it until its tight. Ensure that all chains are evenly spaced and proportionate so they sit flush against the pole. Place a hose clamp around the chain and wire. Tighten the hose clamp to add security, reinforcing the wire.
-
8
Cut a hole to fit the pole through at the center of a 26-inch diameter wicker basket. Slide the basket onto the pole. Push it up to meet the hose clamp at the bottom of the chains. Slide on another PVC or metal flange bracket under the basket for support. Screw the bracket into position. Reinforce the top of the basket by applying duct tape from the basket to the pole, covering the basket's the center hole.
-
9
Dig a two-foot deep hole using an auger or post-hole digger. Slide the pole into the ground and refill the hole. You can fill the hole with cement if you prefer, but this will make your basket installation permanent.

Tips & Warnings
A variety of materials can be used to make the basket, such as an old tire or a circular oil drain pan.
Use caution while drilling into metal parts. PVC material is much easier to drill into and less dangerous. Use adequate eye protection while drilling and cutting.
