A fabric like polyester satin is delicate. Most irons today have delicate heat settings, but the process of using an iron on a delicate can be stressful, especially if the fabric is easily wrinkled, like polyester satin. There is a simple and fast way to remove the wrinkles from your polyester satin at home.

Review steamer instructions. There are many steamers on the market, from inexpensive to large professional grade. For your garments at home, an inexpensive steamer will be adequate. While instructions can and do vary, most steamers function the same way.

Prepare your steamer. Your steamer will need to be filled with water and plugged into a socket so that it can heat up and turn the water into steam.

Hang up your garment. Your shower curtain rod or the corner of a door will work.

Hold the steamer approximately 6 inches away from your garment and run it down the garment from top to bottom. Gently pull your satin taut as you run the steamer down. The steam from the steamer will remove the wrinkles in the fabric. Run the steamer over your entire garment or specific wrinkles to remove them.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have access to a steamer, hang your garment in your bathroom and run the hot water in the shower to produce steam. Close the door so the steam is trapped in the room and can penetrate the garment. This process is slower than a steamer, less effective and uses more energy.
