Batting helmets for baseball and softball come in a variety of sizes. This can make it difficult for kids to find a batting helmet that is snug and tight. Instructions

    • 1

Measure the head in inches, just above the eyebrow, with a cloth measuring tape. Use this measurement to determine the helmet size needed from the manufacturer's sizing chart.

    • 2

Buy a helmet that is suitable for the head size.

    • 3

Place the cushions from the fit kit into the inside of the helmet.

    • 4

Put the chin strap on the helmet by pressing the buttons on the chin strap to both sides of the helmet just under the ear holes.

    • 5

Tighten the chin strap by pulling the strap on either or both sides toward your ears.

Tips & Warnings

  • Batting helmet fit kits can be bought at most sports helmet dealers.

  • Some sports helmet dealers sell batting helmets that can be loosened or tightened to fit.

  • Make sure you have a helmet that has two ear holes that allow you to hook a chin strap to it.

  • Make sure the helmet fits tightly after the cushions are placed in the helmet or it could fall off while swinging or running, which could result in injury.
