Pinpoint your teen's location by tracking her cellphone.

Knowing where your teen is at all times is important if you're concerned about risky behavior or simply want to be able to always know where she is if she goes missing. Some cellphone providers, most notably Sprint and Verizon, offer GPS tracking services for an additional monthly fee. Your teen must have a GPS-enabled phone for the service to work.

Instructions

    • 1

Activate the GPS tracking system available on your teen's phone by calling your service provider. Sprint's Family Locator and Verizon's Chaperone allow you easy access to your teen's whereabouts, but the feature does cost a small monthly fee. There are other services available if your provider doesn't offer family tracking.

    • 2

Log into your cellphone account online and click on your teen's phone. Alternatively, some programs allow you to track your teen's location from your own cellphone.

    • 3

Set up automatic updates to receive your teen's location at specific times or set a virtual boundary that alerts you anytime your teen leaves a designated area.

Tips & Warnings

  • Talk to your teen so he knows you can track his phone. Instead of allowing it to become about trust, explain that you want to be able to pinpoint his location should he ever be missing or in an emergency. Let him know he needs to keep his cellphone on at all times, because GPS tracking only works if the phone is on and has a signal.
