How to Paint a Room in the NFL Buccaneer Theme

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers provide a bold red, pewter, black and orange color palette for painting your child's room or a game room. Instructions

  1. Color Scheme

    • 1

Remove as much furniture from the room as possible and prepare your walls for painting. Wash the walls with a clean damp rag to remove dust and dirt. Fill any holes in the wall with putty. After the putty has dried, sand the entire wall with a fine grit sandpaper. Wash the walls again with a clean damp rag to remove the paint and putty dust.

    • 2

Cover the floor and any furniture in the room with a painter's drop cloth to prevent damaging your belongings.

    • 3

Apply painter's tape to the edges of the room along the ceiling, around window and door frames and along the edge of floor.

    • 4

Fill the well of your painting tray with white paint. Roll your rolling brush in the paint, pulling the roller against the angled portion of the tray to remove excess. Roll the paint onto the walls in long, fluid motions, reapplying paint to your roller as needed. If you are covering up a dark color like red, you may need as many as three coats. Allow each coat to dry before adding the next coat. Let the paint dry overnight or up to three days in humid climates.

    • 5

Apply painter's tape around the room 10 to 12 inches down from the ceiling to create a border. Create a second border of painter's tape beneath the first border approximately 4 to 5 inches down.

    • 6

Coat a medium width paint brush with red paint. Carefully paint the middle section of the wall with the red paint. Brush into the middle of the border rather than outward against the tape, which could result in a messy edge once the paint is removed.

    • 7

Coat a clean paint brush with either pewter or orange paint; pewter creates a more subtle color scheme while orange is more playful and bright. Paint the top border along the ceiling with your desired color, using the method described in Step 6.

    • 8

Remove the tape after the paint has dried at least overnight for up to three days if you live in a humid climate. The end result will be a multi-colored space in the standard Tampa Bay Buccaneer team colors.

    Team Logo

    • 9

Print an image of the Tampa Bay Buccaneer team logo onto a piece of transparency film using your home computer and printer (See Resources).

    • 10

Use an overhead projector to display the logo image onto the wall in your Buccaneer-themed room. Use the adjustment knobs on the projector to focus the image or alter its size to fit your wall.

    • 11

Trace the logo image onto your wall with a pencil. Use a letter code to indicate which portions of the logo should be which colors. For example, "R" indicates a red space for the Buccaneer flag while "B" indicates brown paint for the football in the logo. Remove the projector when you are finished tracing the image.

    • 12

Use small paint brushes to paint each portion of the logo in the indicated color. For the best result, paint the largest spaces first and finish with the more detailed parts, like the football stitching. Outline major portions of the logo like the flag, sword and skull with black paint to add depth and create a clean edge.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't want to paint the logo on to the wall, purchase an adhesive wall decal of the Buccaneer logo instead.
