How to Revoke a Gift Through PayPal

PayPal is an online payment service that allows you to send and receive money electronically. Payments are instant -- when you send money to an individual or company, the balance shows up immediately in the recipient's account. If you'd like to revoke a monetary gift you've made to someone through PayPal, you can take several steps to ensure that the money you sent makes it back into your account.

Instructions

    • 1

Ask the person to process a refund for the gift amount you sent. He'll have to click the "Issue Refund" link next to the transaction on the PayPal website to begin the process.

    • 2

Allow 30 days to pass if the person in question does not have a PayPal account associated with the email address to which you sent money. After this time, the money will be deemed unclaimed and the payment will be reversed, placing the money back into your account.

    • 3

Dispute the transaction by clicking "Resolution Center" at the top of the PayPal screen and selecting "Dispute a Transaction." Select "Item Dispute," choose the transaction you want a refund for, and click "Continue."

    • 4

Call PayPal using the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the website to expedite the refund process for your gift. You'll need to use this link because PayPal gives you a PIN number to enter when calling the customer service line.
