How to Remove Tint From Patio Doors
Applying a tint or window film to the inside of glass patio doors can help reduce glare, protect against shattering and improve the comfort of your home by blocking out the sun's hot rays. Film tints adhere to the patio glass via using an adhesive that not only is functional but difficult to remove. If you have grown tired of the tint on your patio doors and want to remove it, set aside several hours to complete the task. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Open a plastic drop sheet and cut pieces that match the size of each patio door. Measure the glass in each door with a measuring tape. Trace the dimensions onto the drop sheet before cutting it with a sharp pair of scissors.
-
2
Cover the floor in front of the patio doors with an additional drop cloth, tarp or old sheet. Removing the window tint will be a messy process and taking extra precautions to protect your floor is recommended.

3
Fill a spray bottle with warm water and a squirt of dish soap. Give the spray bottle a shake and saturate the tinted glass with soapy water.
-
4
Lay the pieces of cut plastic over the wet glass. Press the plastic against the glass making sure that all of the glass is covered.
-
5
Leave the plastic on the glass overnight. This will give the soapy water an opportunity to break the bond between the tint's adhesive and the glass.
-
6
Remove the plastic from each patio door and discard. Peel the tint from one door by lifting up a corner with your fingertips. Continue peeling until the door is free of tint. Repeat the peeling process on the second door.
-
7
Scrape any lingering adhesive with a plastic putty knife. Clean the glass with an ammonia-based window cleaner and paper towels.

Tips & Warnings
If you have difficulty lifting a corner of the tint, try slipping the plastic putty knife between the tint adhesive and the glass to get started.
Do not remove the adhesive with a metal putty knife. This will scratch the glass.
