Smoothies are a healthy option for breakfast or an afternoon snack. They're made even healthier with the addition of Spirulina, a freshwater algae that is high in protein, rich in vitamins and minerals and high in calcium. After being dehydrated and ground into a powder, Spirulina is sold in health food stores. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Blender
  • 3 bananas, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1/2 to 1 cup canned pineapple chunks, drained
  • 1/2 cup frozen berries
  • Crushed ice (optional)

Instructions

      Place bananas, pineapple and berries in the blender. Blend until the mixture reaches the desired consistency.

      Add 1 tsp. Spirulina to the blender and pulse until it is thoroughly combined.

      Pour into tall glasses and serve immediately.

Tips & Warnings

  • Vary the consistency of the smoothie by adding some of the juice from the canned pineapple or a half cup of crushed ice.
