How to Move an Organizational Unit Structure to Multiple Domains thumbnail
Google Apps makes it possible to move an organizational unit structure to multiple domains.

Google Apps allows you to create organizational unit structures under one domain or several. Your main organization will always be the main domain name on your Apps account, but you can assign multiple domain names to the account as sub-domains. You can also create one or more organizational structures. The organizational structures can be assigned to users based on what domains and what apps you want individual users to be able to access.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for a Google Apps account. This is free to do.

    • 2

Provide the main domain of your organization. This will become the primary domain of your account.

    • 3

Go to the Domain Settings tab of the Google Apps administrator control panel to add additional domains.

    • 4

Verify ownership of each additional domain you add according to the instructions that Google Apps will give you.

    • 5

Go to the Google Apps administrator control panel and add organizational units as needed. For example, if you need a marketing unit and a sales unit, you can add those.

    • 6

Assign users from your organization to the organizational units to which you want them to belong.

    • 7

Assign domain names from your account to the organizational units you want them to be associated with. You can assign all domain names to all organizational units or only to certain organizational units, depending on the needs of your group.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can assign up to 600 domains per Google Apps account.

  • Make sure you are assigning the right people to the right organizational units, or they may end up with access to information that they are not authorized to view. Anyone assigned to an organizational unit in Google Apps can view all documents, communications and other items posted to that unit.
