How to Wire Low Voltage Recessed Lights in a Series

Low voltage recessed lights operate on direct current supplied by a transformer.

Low voltage recessed lights operate on direct current (DC) and work off a transformer that plugs into an alternating current (AC) outlet. Low voltage recessed lights are generally wired together in series so that they all light together. If you intend to wire several low voltage recessed lights in a series, choose a transformer that is capable of delivering enough power to sufficiently illuminate all the lights along the string.

Things You'll Need

• Electrical pliers
• Wire nuts

Instructions

1. Connect the hot wire from the power supply transformer to the input wire of the first light in the series. Twist and tighten the connection with a wire nut.

2. Attach the output wire of the first light to the input wire of the second light. Repeat for all lights in the series. Twist and tighten the connections with wire nuts.

3. Connect the ground wire from the power supply transformer to the output wire of the last light in the series.Twist and tighten the connection with a wire nut.

4. Plug the DC transformer into the AC socket and check the lights.
