How to Replace a 2003 Toyota Camry Water Pump
A broken or damaged water pump on your 2003 Toyota Camry can seriously impact your engine because the pump is an integral part of the cooling system. If the water pump is not functioning properly, you should replace it immediately. A replacement water pump can be purchased from your local auto parts store.

1
Open up the hood of your 2003 Camry and disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

2
Place a drain plan underneath the radiator. Remove the drain plug at the bottom on the radiator. Drain the coolant into the pan. Reattach and hand-tighten the drain plug. Keep the coolant well out of reach of animals and young children.

3
Use a wrench to remove the bolts from the number two idler pulley, which is located directly above the water pump and next to the generator. Remove the pulley from the engine assembly.
-
4
Remove the engine wires from the rear timing belt cover. These wires are located directly next to the water pump on the timing belt cover, which is attached to the pump. Simply pull the wires free from the connectors with your hands. Use the wrench to remove the four bolts holding the rear timing belt cover in position. This will give you access to the water pump.

5
Remove the mounting bolts from the water pump and lift it from the vehicle. Install the replacement pump in place of the old pump and secure it with the four bolts you just removed.
-
6
Reconnect the engine and radiator assembly by following the disassembly steps in reverse. Pour the coolant back into the radiator. Attach the negative terminal to the battery and turn on the engine to check that the water pump and assembly are working properly.
