Letting children run wild with their creativity is important for their development, but it's not all fun and games for adults if the kids end up drawing on the walls or floor. If crayon gets on your tile grout, don't freak out. There are a couple of options you can use to erase any trace of crayon. You can even use chemical-free ingredients as well.

Cleaning With Ammonia

The first method you can use to remove crayon from tile grout is by cleaning it with baking soda, ammonia and white vinegar. Fill a bucket with 7 cups of warm water, 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/3 cup of ammonia and 1/4 cup of vinegar. Make sure that you combine all of these ingredients thoroughly.

Next, dip a sponge into the liquid mixture. If you prefer to be more spot-on with your application, you can put the mixture into a spray bottle. Whichever method you choose, make sure that there's enough cleaner on the tile grout for it to sit for a couple of minutes. Then, scrub the grout with a small brush or old toothbrush.

If the crayon marks aren't gone after you scrub the grout, apply more of the liquid mixture to the area and let it sit for an hour. After you get the grout clean, rinse the area with water and wipe it dry.

Lemon Juice and White Vinegar

One method that works well is cleaning your tile grout with lemon juice. Lemon juice is a mild disinfectant, and it does a great job of getting rid of grout stains. Simply saturate the crayon marks on the grout with lemon juice.

White vinegar is another chemical-free cleaner that does just as good of a job as commercial grout cleaners. To use, pour the vinegar into the bottle cap and then pour it onto the grout.

Whether you choose lemon juice or vinegar, let the liquid sit on the crayon stain for no longer than 15 minutes and then scrub the area with a small brush or old toothbrush. When the stain is lifted, rinse the area and wipe it dry.

Cleaning With Oxygen Bleach

The last method for removing crayon from tile grout is by using oxygen bleach. If you're not familiar with oxygen bleach, it's very different from your average chlorine bleach. Oxygen bleach is made from sodium carbonate (soda ash) and hydrogen peroxide. As soon as you add water to the bleach, oxygen releases and helps lift stains and dirt.

To clean tile grout with oxygen bleach, combine warm water and oxygen bleach in a spray bottle until the oxygen bleach dissolves. Spray the solution onto the grout and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. The longer you let it sit, though, the better results you'll get. If the grout soaks up the solution, you can spray more. When you're ready, scrub the tile with a small brush or old toothbrush. Then, rinse the area and wipe it dry.
