How to Take Apart Rollerblades

How to Take Apart Rollerblades thumbnail
To service Rollerblades, they need to be taken apart.

Rollerblading provides a fast conveyance for fitness or roller hockey. These devices have inline polymer wheels set on bearings. Because of the contact with grit and road grime, Rollerblades get dirty and clogged, requiring maintenance. To get into the heart of the repairs, the Rollerblades must first be taken apart. Rollerblades use hexagonal screws to hold them together, allowing the use of Allen wrenches for the take-apart process.

Set the newspaper out to place parts on removed from the Rollerblades. Grab one of the Rollerblades and turn it so the wheels are parallel to the ground.

    • 2

Insert a #4 Allen wrench into the wheel axle screws and turn counterclockwise until they come out. Pull the wheels up and out from the inline housing. Set the wheels and screws on the newspapers.

    • 3

Insert the Allen wrench into the screws on the inline housing and turn them counterclockwise to remove the inline housing from the base of the Rollerblade shoe. Place the parts on the newspaper.

    • 4

Grip the Rollerblade so the shoe portion is in the upright position and unscrew the side screws at the hinge of the ankle and foot-box. Remove the plastic portions and set them on the newspaper along with the screws.

    • 5

Insert the bearing remover into the center of each wheel and pull back to pop the bearing cartridges out of the wheels. Set them aside with the hollowed wheels.
