How to Troubleshoot a Yamaha XT600

The XT600 is a motorcycle that is manufactured by Yamaha. It has a four-stroke engine which is air cooled, with a five-speed transmission.       Remove the gas cap from the fuel tank and verify that it has fuel. Add fuel if the tank is empty. Try to start the engine. If the engine still does not start there may be a compression problem.

      Attempt to start the motorcycle using the electric starter. If there is compression and the engine still will not start there may be an ignition problem.

      Disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the spark plugs with the socket wrench. If the spark plug is wet you will want to dry it with a clean cloth. Replace and tighten the spark plug. Reconnect the spark plug wire.

      Set the throttle to half and then attempt to start the engine. If the engine will still not start there may be a battery problem.

      Attempt to start the engine with the electric starter. If the engine turns over slowly or not at all you will need to recharge the battery.
