How to Clean Built Up Soap Scum From a Bathtub
Soap scum buildup on bathtubs can be annoying, but it also poses a health risk for everyone that uses the tub. Bacteria become trapped in the soap scum, and, when water is added, the bacteria are released into it. There are some eco-friendly ways to clean built-up soap scum from the bathtub without using harsh cleaners. Things You'll Need
- Vinegar
- Terrycloth rag
- Spray bottle
- Lemon oil
- Acrylic scrubbing sponge
- Baking soda
- Dish-washing soap

Pour white vinegar on a terrycloth rag and wipe the soap scum in a circular motion. Do a small area at a time until all of the soap scum is gone. Rinse the bathtub with hot water. You can also pour the vinegar in a spray bottle, spray the vinegar on the soap scum, let it sit for up to five minutes and then wipe with a rag.

Pour lemon oil on an acrylic scrubbing sponge, and rub the sponge on the built-up soap scum in a circular motion. Use a terrycloth rag to wipe away the soap scum and lemon oil. Rinse with hot water. The lemon oil cleaner works very well on glass shower doors as well.

Make a paste by mixing 1 cup of baking soda and a half-cup of water. Apply the paste to the bathtub and let it sit on the soap scum for up to 20 minutes. Use a clean rag to wipe away the soap scum and paste. Rinse with hot water.

Pour dish-washing soap on the soap scum, and let it sit for up to five minutes. Use a dry rag to rub the dish soap, and rinse the area with hot water.
