1
Hang the coat outside to air it out. Ensure that it is placed in a shady area, out of direct sunlight. Let the coat air out for a day or two.
-
2
Clean the coat. Apply a small amount of a moisturizing soap or leather cleaner onto a damp cloth and bring it to lather. Rub the cloth on a small area of the coat but avoid making the leather soak up the moisture. Wipe the lather off with a damp cloth. Repeat until you have cleaned every part of the leather. Rub the coat with a dry cloth to dry and polish the leather.

Pour a small amount of vinegar onto a cotton cloth. Use the cloth to swab the jacket. Let the jacket air dry. Rub the vinegar onto a hidden part of the leather coat first to ensure that it will not ruin the jacket. Apply the vinegar to the rest of the coat if the test is successful.

4
Spray the coat with a light mist of air freshener. Let the coat air dry for at least a day. Test a small corner of the leather coat first before applying the spray all over it.
-
5
Fill a tube sock with some baking soda or coffee grinds and tie it shut. Lay the leather coat on a flat surface and open the panels. Place the sock inside the jacket and close the panels. Expect the moldy smell to recede in about one week.
