How to Handcraft a Money Tree
Money trees are a traditional part of many special events. They can be used at weddings, anniversary parties, baby showers, graduations, anniversaries and birthday parties to bless the person being honored. The tree is usually crafted from a tree branch and is set out as a centerpiece. Guests are then invited to attach money to the tree as a gift. Handcraft a simple, reusable money tree that can be personalized for each special event.

1
Retrieve a tree branch from your yard or from a craft store. Select one that has made side twigs and branches, so it looks like a miniature tree. If you got it from your yard, set it aside for a few days to dry out -- and to let bugs vacate the premises. Strip off the bark and any foliage.

2
Spray paint the branch, if you want a more polished look. For a rustic or country look, leave it be, or spray it with a clear sealant.

3
Fill a pot or other container with air-drying clay. Insert the branch into the clay and let the clay dry. If your branch is small, you can use floral foam or pebbles to support the branch. If it is very large, you should use Plaster-of-Paris.

4
Attach clothespins or decorative clips to the twigs. This is how your guests will secure money to the tree.
-
5
Decorate the tree and container to match the occasion. Tie pink ribbons to the branch, for example, if you are displaying the tree at a baby shower. Or, hang sparkling crystals from the tree for a wedding.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't have time to do all the steps, simply purchase a fake plant at a local craft store and attach clips to it.
Some people consider money trees tacky, especially at weddings. It is best to forgo a money tree at your wedding unless this has been a tradition in your family, according to SmartMoney.
