Direct TV satellite dishes are in a perfect place for antenna attachment because they are already on the roof, positioned to receive a strong signal. You can connect an antenna to receive antenna-based programming, such as free digital channels. Ensure your safety when on the roof by using a sturdy ladder and wearing flat, rubber-soled shoes. If you have vertigo or suffer form a fear of heights, ask a friend to install the antenna for you.

      Turn off the satellite receiver and unplug it.

      Climb onto your roof, and place a clip-on antenna on the back of the satellite dish. Place the antenna's clamps on the edge of the satellite dish, and snap them into place. Tighten them until the antenna snaps into place.

      Locate the "Output" on the satellite dish multi-switch, and disconnect the cable from it.

      Connect the antenna by inserting its cable in the "Output" port on the multi-switch.

      Climb back to the ground.

      Locate the "Sat In" port on your satellite receiver. Remove the cable from it. Connect this cable to the "TV" port on the duplexer that came with your antenna. The "Sat In" port on your receiver should be free.

      Connect one end of a short cable to the "Sat" port on the duplexer. Connect the other end of the cable to the "Sat In" port on the satellite receiver. This cable should be included with the antenna. Connect the other cable included with your antenna to the satellite receiver "Ant In" port and the "TV" port on the antenna duplexer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not go on the roof if the wind is strong or the roof is wet.
