Attaching a plow to your Ford Ranger is more cost-effective than purchasing a dedicated snow plow.

Plowing snow with your Ford Ranger is much more cost-effective than purchasing a truck with a dedicated snow plow attached to it. Using a detachable plow also allows you to easily remove the plow from the Ranger when winter weather clears up, allowing you use your truck year-round. Always double-check the plow's connections to your Ranger before attempting to move snow with it--otherwise you run the risk of damaging the plow (and possibly your truck as well).

Determine your Ranger's curb weight and Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR), which is the measure of how much total weight your truck can safely support. Consult your owner's manual to determine these measurements. Based on these measurements, purchase a snow plow that is compatible with the model of your Ford Ranger. Ford makes plows specifically designed for its Rangers. Contact a local Ford truck dealer to find a kit that suits your truck and your needs.

Thoroughly read the instructions included with your snow plow before starting the installation process. Follow the instructions included with the plow to attach the frame to the front of your Ranger. To ensure that your plow will not come loose from the Ranger, tighten all of the connections before moving on.

Carefully jack the front of your Ranger up to about 18 inches. Place the base of the jack on a flat, stable surface underneath the truck. Be sure the jack makes contact with the vehicle's axle before attempting to jack the vehicle up---otherwise, the Ranger may slip from the jack.

Carefully slide underneath the truck and follow the manufacturer's instructions to secure the plow to the truck's chassis. Slide out from underneath the truck and lower it back down. Finish the installation process according to the instructions.
