How to Install a Soundproof Wood Floor
In places where noise needs to be kept under control such as in an apartment building or a homemade sound recording studio, it is important to soundproof the structure. This includes the floor. Soundproofing will not only keep sounds from escaping and disturbing those outside or beneath your location but it will also keep sounds from the outside from leaking in and disturbing you. Things You'll Need
- Floor adhesive (urethane-based)
- Notched trowel (1/8 inch)
- Cork underlay
- Wood flooring
- Cutting tool

Remove existing corner-rounds or molding if possible. Vacuum the entire room thoroughly. The floor should be clean, dry and dust free. You may decide to leave an existing floor and install the new floor on top for added soundproofing.

A notched trowel creates a texture in the adhesive that holds flooring better. Spread floor adhesive with the notched trowel. Work in sections of about 1 square yard and apply the cork underlay. Cut edges when necessary to fit the cork perfectly into the corners and around the molding in the room. If you're using cork panels instead of a roll of underlay, be sure that the squares are pressed together in very neat, snug rows. Allow the adhesive to dry thoroughly before proceeding.

Wood flooring comes in a wide variety to choose from. Install the wood flooring according to the manufacturer´s instructions. Usually, you'll apply another layer of floor adhesive in sections and connect the wooden boards together in a tongue-and-groove system. Leave about 1/4 inch of space between the wall and the perimeter of the floor to allow for expansion and contraction of the wood due to changes in weather and humidity conditions.
