How to Make a Little Boy Pilgrim Costume

Create a pilgrim costume for your little boy as a Halloween outfit or for a Thanksgiving play or party. Dressing up as a pilgrim is a fun way to get a child involved in the meaning of Thanksgiving. Save some money by making the costume yourself rather than buying it from a costume shop or online. Even people who are not skilled at sewing can make a pilgrim costume with just a little time and effort.

Things You'll Need

• Long-sleeved shirt
• Long plants
• Scissors
• White cloth
• Glue gun
• Glue stick
• Measuring tape
• Black wide-brimmed hat
• Gold cloth
• Tall white socks
• Black shoes

Instructions

1. Choose a long-sleeved black shirt as the top for your child's pilgrim costume. Select a long pair of black pants and cut them just below the boy's knees. Alternatively, recycle a pair of pants that he has grown out of for this costume.

2. Cut a strip from the white cloth that is about an inch wide and 2 inches to 3 inches long. Heat up the glue gun and glue the strips around the ends of the shirt's sleeves.

3. Measure your child from shoulder to shoulder. Cut a rectangle from the white cloth that is as wide as the length between his shoulders and double that in length. Cut a hole in the center of the rectangle. Put your child's head through the hole and drape the cloth over his shoulders as the collar for his pilgrim costume.

4. Cut a 3-inch-wide strip of white cloth that is long enough to fit around the crown of the black wide-brimmed hat. Use the glue gun to attach the cloth to the hat. Cut a rectangle of gold cloth that is about 5 inches tall and 3 inches wide and glue it to the front of the hat as the buckle.

5. Dress your child in the costume, complete with a pair of tall, tight-fitting white socks and simple black shoes.
