Switching from cable Internet to a broadband system like DSL can offer cost savings. In areas where AT&T provides DSL service, there is even a financial incentive offered to switch from cable Internet to DSL. For the average user, the process of switching is mostly administrative. Activation and processing times can vary depending on your specific geographic region.

Instructions

1. Confirm AT&T DSL availability in your area. Using AT&T's online tool, enter your landline phone number or residential address to confirm that AT&T offers DSL service in your area. This is a prerequisite to all other steps.

2. Select an AT&T DSL package. Once you have confirmed availability, the AT&T website will display a list of available DSL packages. Choose the package you want by clicking on it. This is largely a personal choice based on your budget and bandwidth requirements.

3. Enter your personal data to place the order. Depending on the package, this step may include entering credit card information as payment for equipment ordered with the package. Submit the form when complete to place the order.

4. Call Comcast customer service at 800-266-2278. The system will prompt you to enter your account information. Once entered, select the option to speak with a customer service representative. Inform the representative that you wish to terminate your Internet service. The representative will attempt to retain you as a customer. Decline any offers to remain a Comcast customer. Set a date to terminate your Comcast Internet, and request a final billing statement.
