How to Make a Corpse Bride Wig

How to Make a Corpse Bride Wig thumbnail
Choose yarn with a natural texture for a more authentic look.

The Corpse Bride is the story of Emily, a quirky young woman who was killed and buried by her fiance on her wedding day. Her eerie beauty look has inspired many Halloween and theme party costumes. A wig that mimics Emily's long, stringy hair is an essential accessory when dressing up as the original character from the movie. While there are versions of the wig for sale, making your own wig saves money and lets you control its length, color and look. Keep it authentic or make it fun with braids and textured wool. Instructions

  1. Preparation

    • 1

Measure out the yarn by wrapping it around the short side of a bed pillow 30 times.

    • 2

Gather the yarn on one side of the pillow with a 5" piece of yarn and secure with a double knot.

    • 3

Cut the yarn on the other side of the pillow, so that you're left with a bundle of yarn that is tied in the middle.

    • 4

      Make 10 more yarn bundles.

    Creating the Wig

    • 5

Draw a line with the chalk from the top of the hat to the brim.

    • 6

Insert the crochet hook through the top of the hat to the right of your chalk line.

    • 7

Use the crochet hook to grab one of the yarn bundles around the middle where it's tied. Pull it through the cap.

    • 8

Pull the other end of bundle through the cap, this time, just to the left of the chalk line. Tie the two ends together inside the cap and secure with a double knot.

    • 9

Attach the remaining bundles evenly around the hat about a 1/2 inch apart.

    Attach the Bangs

    • 10

Measure the bangs by wrapping the yarn around the width of your hand.

    • 11

Attach the bundles along the front brim of the hat.

    • 12

Try the wig on and trim the bangs to the ideal length.

Tips & Warnings

  • The wool cap should not be longer than you intend the bangs to be. A long cap can be trimmed or rolled to the ideal length.

  • For a longer wig, measure out the yarn by wrapping it from your hand to your elbow.

  • The wool hat may be substituted by a mesh produce bag, a shower cap or the top of a pair of nylons.
