How to Get Good Results Out of a Tanning Bed
You can show off beautiful, tan skin all year by using a tanning bed. A tanning bed is convenient because you can achieve a tan in less time and in a controlled environment verses traditional tanning outside. Always tan for the recommended times and follow the precautions for eye protection to avoid any permanent skin or sight damage. By perfecting the amount of time in the bed and choosing the right indoor tanning product, you can have a beach-ready tan all year round. Does this Spark an idea?

Start with a short amount of time. For example, if you choose a bed that has a maximum time of eight minutes, start with four minutes. This will give you a gauge of how your skin will react to the bulbs. If after that first session you do not have sensitive skin, increase your time by two minutes until you find your right time or hit the maximum time limit. If you find that your skin is itchy, you develop a rash or burns regardless of time under the lamps, stop tanning and notify the tanning salon. It could be your skin sensitivity or the product you are using with tanning. Let the salon know what medications you are taking as well to avoid any allergic reactions.

Wear protective eyewear. The eyes have sensitive tissues that can be permanently damaged if exposed to the UVA and UVB lights --- even for a short period of time. Most tanning salons provide eye goggles for tanners to use at their convenience.

Use tanning lotion for indoor use before you begin your tanning session. This will keep the skin moist and boost the effects of the tanning bed because moist skin tans better. Apply the tanning lotion to a small portion of your body beforehand to test if there are any allergic reactions. Do this before you go under the lamps because the UVA and UVB rays will only heighten and irritate a reaction. If that area of skin itches or becomes puffy, discontinue use and ask for an exchange or refund on the product.
