How to Make a Polar Fleece Wrap

How to Make a Polar Fleece Wrap thumbnail
Polar fleece will keep you comfortable and warm.

When the temperature drops, there's no need to put up with the chill while you relaxing at home. Making your own polar fleece wrap is easy with just a few supplies required. Embellishments are easy to add with a little sewing expertise, but fleece is a forgiving fabric and doesn't require a finishing hem. The satisfaction of choosing fabric and making your own wrap for keeping or giving are worth more than a store-bought wrap.

Things You'll Need

  • Fabric Scissors
  • Measuring Tape

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the fabric on a large, flat surface placing the shorter ends to the right and left. Uneven edges and selvage need trimming to straighten.

    • 2

Fold the polar fleece in half by bringing the shorter ends together and pin loosely along the edges for stability.

    • 3

From the bottom, measure 20 inches up the folded side and make a line with fabric pen along that edge.

    • 4

Unfold the fabric and measure 2 inches on each side from the marked center line. Mark measurements with the fabric pen.

    • 5

Draw a straight line from one 2-inch mark up towards the top of the 30-inch line to the other 2-inch mark, rounding it at the top to form a 'U' for your neck. A cup or small plate can help with the curve.

    • 6

Use scissors or decorative shears to cut the curved neckline for the wrap.

    • 7

To finish the look use the guiding plate or cup to cut rounded edged from the square ends of the polar fleece.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have sewing skills, you can add a 1/4-inch hem around the edge of the wrap.

  • Add embellishments and fringe for personalization.

  • Ask the store clerk about right and wrong side and mark it with the fabric marker.

  • High heat can damage or melt the fleece.
