How To Insert a Homemade Label for a Slim Jewel CD Case

How To Insert a Homemade Label for a Slim Jewel CD Case thumbnail
Slim cases come in two sizes, 5mm and 7mm.

Slim jewel CD cases allow for a professional-looking release of homemade CDs that are affordable and do not take up a lot of room. The slim jewel case is designed to use a front cover only, forgoing the book insert, spine insert and back cover of thicker cases. Once the label is designed and printed on either stock paper or special CD insert paper it is easy to insert a homemade label for a slim jewel CD case.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the slim jewel case so it is laying flat with the disc area of the case facing up.

    • 2

Remove the printed label from the printer paper by either separating it along the perforated lines or cutting it to size with a pair of scissors.

    • 3

Lay the cover over the inside front of the jewel case so the cover is face down and oriented so the top of the design is at the top of the case.

    • 4

Gently pull the top and bottom of the printed cover in so the middle of the cover arches. Release the top and bottom edges and guide them so they slide under the plastic tabs molded in the case (two at the top and two on the bottom). The tabs will hold the cover in position.

Tips & Warnings

  • Print enough covers to have a few extra to practice folding and inserting with.

  • Do not design covers with spine areas (as on regular size jewel cases) as the slim-line case spine areas are not encased in plastic on both sides and the spine of the cover may easily be torn or stained.
