How to Download Themes for DS
The Nintendo DS comes installed with one stock theme that can only be slightly modified to give users a personalized DS menu. With game modifying flash carts like the R4, M3 and AceKard, however, users can download and install custom themes onto their DS system. These themes come in a variety of different styles to match different user personalities and can be installed in a matter of minutes.

Insert the Micro SD card that came with your DS flash cart into the Micro SD card reader that came with the flash cart. Insert the Micro SD card reader into the computer's USB port.

Double-click the Micro SD card's icon to open its root directory. Open the "_system_" folder.

Open the computer's Web browser and navigate to a website that offers DS themes for download. NDS Themes, NDS Skins and R4 DS Skins are a few of the websites that offer DS themes for download (see Resources). Download the theme onto the computer. Extract the file contents with a program such as WinZip, WinRar or Stuffit Expander if necessary.

Drag the contents of the theme folder into the _system_ folder. There should be a logo.bmp file, a icons.bmp file, a bckgrd_1.bmp file and a bckgrd_2.bmp file.

Eject the Micro SD card reader from the computer. Insert the Micro SD card into the DS flash cart and insert the flash cart into the DS system. The new theme will load when you turn on the DS system.
