How to Get "Far Cry" to Work on Windows Vista

Although Crytek Studios has stated that "Far Cry" for the PC will work with Windows Vista as it did with Windows XP, there may be some issues with compatibility or setup that require work before you can actually play the game. However, you can work with Vista to allow "Far Cry" to be played easily on the computer with no problems whatsoever.

Instructions

    • 1

Check which version of Windows Vista you have. To do this, click "Start," then type "System" into the text box that appears. Click the "System" icon in the program list and note the "System Type" in the window that appears (either 32-bit or 64-bit).

    • 2

Ensure that you have the proper version of "Far Cry" for your version of Vista. There are two versions -- one for 32-bit Vista and one for 64-bit Vista. Start the game. If it says it requires a 32-bit or 64-bit system, reinstall "Far Cry" using the proper version of the game.

    • 3

Open the game with the proper executable file. Click either the setup32.exe or setup64.exe file, respectively, to run the game. If problems persist, proceed to the next step.

    • 4

Right-click the icon for "Far Cry," then click "Properties."

    • 5

Click the "Compatibility" tab in the window that appears, then check the "Run this program in compatibility mode" box. Click "OK" to save changes.
