How to Wear Slouch Socks

How to Wear Slouch Socks thumbnail
Marc Jacobs brought back slouch socks in his Fall 2006 show, and this ’80s go-to is still going strong.

Slouch socks became popular in the 1980s for their ability to be layered for a funky look. They were commonly worn with aerobic clothes, another popular '80s fashion trend. The slouch sock trend disappeared for a while, but it is slowly regaining popularity as '80s styles influence contemporary fashion designers. The slouch sock trend is easy to achieve, letting you match your slouch socks to other clothing items and accessories. The trend works best with clothing that displays the socks rather than hiding them under pants legs. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of leggings, and adjust the leg so the seams are straight.

    • 2

Pull the socks up over the leggings.

    • 3

Push down on each sock to create a loose-fitting, "slouched" look.

    • 4

Wear slouch socks with casual dresses and tights.

    • 5

Pair slouch socks with aerobic shorts and other types of aerobic apparel. For best results, match your socks with your shirt.

    • 6

Add a matching sweatband, wristbands and high-top aerobic sneakers if you want to mimic the 1980s aerobic-fashion trend.

    • 7

Put on an extra pair of slouch socks in another color to coordinate with your outfit for a funky look.

    • 8

Pull the first pair of slouch socks up tight without slouching them, and add the second pair over the first. Slouch the second pair, and then slouch the first pair. Adjust the socks so they are even on both legs.

    • 9

Slip on a pair of slouch socks to keep your feet and ankles warm on cold winter nights.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid pulling the socks up too high before slouching, because this can stretch the elastic and result in an overly slouchy look.
