Cockroaches (or roaches) can quickly become a nuisance. Many people find them repulsive and associate them with filth. Moreover, cockroaches can transmit bacteria that cause food poisoning, typhoid and hepatitis. Cockroaches prefer moist areas where food has been left out; this makes kitchens, basements and attics ideal locations for cockroaches. If you see one cockroach, there is a good chance there are more hiding. Thus, you will want to take steps to get rid of cockroaches as soon as possible.
Step 1
Place sticky traps around your attic. Sticky traps, such as Tomcat Glue Cockroach Trap, lure cockroaches with attractants and then trap the cockroaches with high-strength glue. Sticky traps are best if you are dealing with a relatively small cockroach problem. If the traps are being covered every time you set them out, continue to the next step.

Poison the cockroaches in your attic. Poison comes in the form of bait, dusts and sprays. Dusts, such as Drione, and sprays, such as Raid, can cover large areas and do not need to be ingested to take effect. Once a cockroach comes in contact with the dust or spray (such as crawling over it), the cockroaches begin a slow death. Baits, on the other hand, kill cockroaches more quickly, but must be ingested by the cockroach.
Step 3
Clean up your attic. Cockroaches are attracted to food. To prevent cockroaches from returning to your attic, clean up any food and seal any containers that hold food. Moreover, you should clean your attic with soap and water to get rid of any spills.
Step 4
Get rid of moisture in your attic. Cockroaches prefer moist environments. This makes attics an ideal home. To get rid of moisture, open windows or run a dehumidifier.
