How to Install a DirecTV Terrestrial Antenna

Terrestrial analog antennas allow viewers to receive local channels that are not included in DirecTV's satellite plans. The antenna is a much quicker setup than the satellite dish, but it only gives a handful of channels. Unlike the dish, the antenna can be set up inside your home and next to your receiver box. A single coaxial cord runs from the antenna to the receiver box, so it's best to put the antenna somewhere close to the box where the cord can be disguised.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your antenna by your receiver box. Entertainment systems are great for clustering and disguising wires once they are attached.

    • 2

Pull your receiver box out to where you can see the back. There are several slots similar to the one you will be plugging the antenna into, so you will need proper lighting to identify the correct spot.

    • 3

Screw the antenna cord into the "Satellite-In" spot in the back of the receiver box. On many boxes, this spot is near the bottom-right of the box.

    • 4

Pull any excess cord, so that the connection is tight. There will be some excess slack that will curl up near the connection to the receiver box.

    • 5

Replace the receiver box to its original spot.

Tips & Warnings

  • If already have a connection going into the "Satellite -In" spot, you can use one of DirecTV's multi-switch (see Resources).
