How to Troubleshoot a Deep Freezer
A deep freezer is used to store food at temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature inside a deep freezer is lower than the freezer on a refrigerator, and is more suited for storing foods for longer periods of time. Deep freezers are built in different sizes to be used in areas with varying amounts of space. If your deep freezer does not work properly, troubleshoot it and make minor repairs to correct common issues. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Plug the power cord into a grounded three-prong outlet. Check household fuses or circuit breakers. Unscrew cloudy or black fuses to remove them, and insert new fuses. Push circuit breakers to the "On" position, if needed.
-
2
Turn the freezer temperature control dial to 4. This will set the temperature to 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
-
3
Wait 30 minutes and check the freezer again. The freezer will periodically run an automatic defrost cycle, if equipped. The freezer does not run during this cycle.
Starts and Stops Frequently
-
4
Inspect the door or lid and make sure it is closed. Move food that is holding the door or lid open.
-
5
Open and shut the door or lid to make sure it is sealing. Clean dirty door or lid seals with a damp cloth.
-
6
Keep the door or lid closed as much as possible. Opening and closing the lid allows cold air to escape and warm air to enter the freezer. The freezer will run more often to maintain the selected temperature.
-
7
Open the freezer door and pull the base grille down and away from the freezer to remove it if the freezer is an upright model. Chest model freezers do not have a base grille. Use an extended vacuum attachment to clean the condenser coils. Place the clips on the base grille into the openings on the bottom of the freezer and push it in to snap it into place.
-
8
Move the freezer away from ovens or other heat sources. Allow 3 inches of clearance on the top and sides of the freezer and 1 inch at the back for adequate circulation.
