How to Make a Marble Countertop Shine

A marble countertop in a kitchen provides a durable and attractive surface to prepare food on. To keep a marble countertop looking bright and shiny -- that brand-new look -- seal the surface and then polish the countertop. A few products from a hardware store will be needed, but no special equipment.

Things You'll Need

• Soft cloths
• Marble impregnation solution

Instructions

1. Wipe the surface of the countertop with a water-moistened soft cloth to remove loose dirt and grime. Wipe the surface dry with a soft, dry cloth.

2. Apply the marble impregnation solution to a soft cloth. Wipe the surface of the countertop with the cloth, moving in slow clockwise circles from one corner of the countertop to the other side and then back.

3. Wipe the entire surface of the countertop with the cloth, remoistening the cloth as needed to apply the impregnation solution to the marble. Dispose of the cloth in the trash when done. Let the marble countertop set for a day before continuing.

4. Wipe the countertop with a dry soft cloth for a few minutes to shine the marble.

Tips & Warnings

• Rhubarb and citrus products can stain a marble countertop and lessen its shine.

• Polishing a marble countertop with a power tool can damage the surface.
