How to Ship a Homemade Cake
A homemade cake is a great way to celebrate an important occasion, such as a birthday, graduation or anniversary. But what if you want to bake a cake for someone who lives far away? Fortunately, there are several things you can do to securely ship a homemade cake. This can include using extra frosting, freezing the cake and using packing items like bubble wrap, foam wrap and foam pellets for insulation inside the box. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Plastic container
- Sheets of foam
- Tape
- Large box
- Bubble wrap
- Foam pellets
- Freezer

Make sure you are careful when decorating your cake. Use extra icing on the bottom of the pan to make sure it sticks. Also, use an icing that is firmer than usual so it will hold its shape during shipping, especially if you are shipping it during warm weather.

Place the cake in a large plastic cake container after it is decorated, and freeze it. This will help to set the icing and also the cake so it won't move around during transportation. The cake will also stay cooler longer if the plastic container has been refrigerated before you place the cake inside. Keep the cake in the freezer until you are ready to pack it up for shipping.

Remove the cake box from the freezer and wrap it in foam sheets for insulation. Tape the sheets firmly in place, then wrap the box in bubble wrap. Firmly tape the bubble wrap sheets as well. Place the cake package in a cardboard box that is a tiny bit larger than the cake itself. Pack the sides all around the cake with foam pellets. The cake should be well insulated all around so it can't move inside the box. Tape the box shut.

Apply an address label to the box along with stickers that say "This End Up" or "Fragile." Place these stickers on every side of the box. You may also include stickers that read "Perishable." To make sure the cake reaches its destination in time, select priority overnight shipping
