Over time, the shift indicator light on your Toyota Camry's instrument console will eventually burn out and have to be replaced. In order to access the shift indicator light on your Camry, the upper dash trim must be removed and the instrument console pulled out of the vehicle. The console itself is held in by a series of screws and clips; but once the console is removed, you can easily replace the shift indicator's light bulb.

Step 1

Park the Camry on a flat, paved surface and turn off the engine. Open the hood and remove the battery's negative terminal with a socket wrench.

Step 2

Remove the four screws around the upper dashboard trim with a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull out the two clips holding the trim in place to remove it. Move the Camry's steering wheel to the bottom position to access the instrument console.

Step 3

Remove the two screws in the instrument console's cover. Remove the cover.

Step 4

Remove the four screws in the instrument console then reach behind the console. Unplug the connector on the back by pulling it off the console then pull the instrument console out of the vehicle.

Step 5

Rotate the burnt-out bulb counterclockwise to remove it then install a new bulb by rotating it clockwise. Reattach the console with its screws, the console cover with its screws, then the upper dash trim and its accompanying clips and screws. Reconnect the battery and close the hood.
